Fall is when Cape shows off. The riverfront cools down, and the calendar fills with fairs, festivals, and live music that pull the whole community together. From fried Oreos and funnel cakes at the SEMO District Fair to crisp mornings and packed weekends, here is your month-by-month guide to fall 2026 in Cape Girardeau.
September
SEMO District Fair
- September 12-19, 2026
- 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM
- The Fairground, 410 Kiwanis Dr, Cape Girardeau
There’s no better way to kick off the fall season than a full week of the SEMO District Fair! Carnival rides and game booths, fair food you only let yourself have once a year, livestock shows, and grandstand entertainment. It is the kind of tradition that gets marked on the calendar in ink, and 2026 brings another eight days of it.
October
The 27th Annual Tour de Cape
- Saturday, October 3, 2026
- Mass start 8:30 AM
- Boardman Pavilion, Downtown Cape Girardeau
Roll out from historic downtown on 15-, 30-, or 60-mile routes, with rest stops and SAG support along the way. The Tour de Cape charity ride benefits Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship, and registration is $30 if postmarked by September 19 (includes a commemorative t-shirt) or $35 after. Begin at the mass start to get the full experience with rest stops open.
Footloose
- October 1-4, 2026
- Bedell Performance Hall, River Campus
- Tickets $25 to $32.75
Dust off your dancing shoes. The Dobbins Conservatory brings the explosive 1980s rock and roll musical to the River Campus stage, complete with the hits you know: “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” “Almost Paradise,” and, of course, “Footloose.” Reserved seating, multiple dates and times, parental guidance suggested.
SEMO Homecoming
- Saturday, October 17, 2026
- Southeast Missouri State University
Homecoming weekend brings everyone back. The morning kicks off with the homecoming parade rolling out from Capaha Park around 9:30, then it is tailgating all day before SEMO takes on Western Illinois at Houck Field. Alumni pour back in, families fill the stands, and downtown is hopping all weekend long. Wear your red and black and come be part of it.
Riverfront Fall Festival
- Saturday, October 24, 2026
- 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Water Street and the Riverfront, Downtown Cape
A full day of fall right on the riverfront. The Riverfront Fall Festival is packed with food trucks, local vendors, and live music. There is something for every age in the family to enjoy. Set against the Mississippi, this one is made for wandering, so come hungry and stay a while.
The Play That Goes Wrong
- October 29 through November 2, 2026
- Rust Flexible Theatre, River Campus
- Tickets $25 to $32.75
Broadway’s funniest smash hit lands at the Dobbins Conservatory. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse that will not play dead, and a cast tripping over everything (including their lines) as they battle toward the final curtain call. A hilarious evening of physical comedy and falling scenery. General admission seating, multiple dates and times, parental guidance suggested.
Haunted Harvest Festival
- Saturday, October 31, 2026
- 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- 35 S Spanish St, Downtown Cape
The Riverfront Farmers Market gets a Halloween makeover. Come out in costume, do your weekend shopping with local vendors you know, and start the spookiest day of the year down by the river with the whole community before the trick-or-treating begins.
Make a Weekend of It
However you fall into the season, Cape is ready for it. Pick an event, and turn a single afternoon into a full weekend. Book a place to stay so you can catch a Friday night show and a Saturday festival without the rush home, and swing by our food and drink page to line up a bite before the fun or a table to land at after. Come for one event, stay for the whole fall.
See you downtown.
