It’s September and that means it’s SEMO District Fair time!
The Southeast Missourian did a poll a while ago asking people what their favorite part of the fair was.55.8% of those surveyed said the fair food! We agree!
Once you get through the gates and walk toward the midway, the smell of fair food will draw you into the many colorful vendors serving foods you can only get during this special week in September. No, there’s nothing healthy, but definitely hearty!
You’ll find the classics like corn dogs, friend Oreos, lemon shakeups, cotton candy, ribbon potatoes and funnel cakes. But the SEMO District Fair has some unique standouts, like cheesecake-on-a-stick from the 4H stand, fried snickers, fried twinkies and even fried butter! You will probably also see someone walking around eating a giant smoked turkey leg – a sight to see! Most of the vendors travel along with the fair, but some are local, like fried fish plates and a grilled cheese that is worth the trip to the fair by itself!
Of course, there’s more to the fair than the food – family fun, agriculture, entertainment and carnival rides are some of the highlights. To cool off, check out the award-winning and impressive fruits, baked goods and crafts inside the Arena Building, all labeled with local names and ribbons showcasing their successes.

Ready for a SEMO District Fair hack? Beat the crowds and go to the fair for lunch! Plus, free parking (as usual) and no admission. Maybe even go as a work outing and have a fair food lunch! Enjoy this year’s SEMO District Fair!
