Summer in Cape Girardeau means warm nights, full patios, and live music almost any night of the week. From the biggest event of the season to the laid-back gigs you’ll find in every corner of town, here’s where to listen.
The Headliner: Freedom Fest
Mark June 6 on your calendar. Freedom Fest returns to Century Casino Cape Girardeau for its third year, headlined by country artist Bayker Blankenship with support from Ivas John, Next of Kin, GenX, and Roseland. Gates open at 3:30 p.m., music kicks off at 4:00 p.m., and the night closes with fireworks during the last set.
It’s more than a concert. Freedom Fest is a fundraiser benefiting the Cape Girardeau Veterans Home Foundation, with proceeds going directly toward improving the lives of veterans at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape. Expect food trucks, vendors, a Kids Zone, and a full evening of music. General admission is $40, Freedom Elite tickets (premium seating, catered meal, drink tickets) are $150, and kids 12 and under get in free.
A Night with Elvis
On July 20, head to the Arena Building for a free Elvis tribute concert, hosted in the same venue where Elvis himself took the stage back in 1955. Finley Watkins channels the King with a full live band, bringing one of Cape’s most memorable music moments back to life 71 years later. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. Did we mention it’s free?
Blues on Broadway
Once a month at Scout Hall, Blues on Broadway brings the sounds of the Blues Highway to downtown Cape. This new concert series celebrates Highway 61 turning 100, honoring the road’s deep blues legacy with a night of live music you won’t want to miss. Tunes at Twilight
Every Friday night through the summer, head to Ivers Square in downtown Cape for Tunes at Twilight, a free outdoor concert series hosted by Old Town Cape. Grab a drink or a bite to eat downtown before you head over, then settle in and let the music carry you into the weekend. It’s one of Cape’s most beloved summer traditions and one of the easiest ways to spend a Friday evening.
Around Town: Where to Catch Live Music Any Night
A handful of local bars and venues keep the music going all week long. Lineups change, so a quick check of their pages is the move before you head out.
The Bar and Spectrum Record Lounge both host live music throughout the week, with bigger shows on the weekends. These two are your best bet if you’re looking for a regular rotation of local and touring acts.
D Duncan Floristry & Boutique and Roost lean into a more relaxed vibe, with occasional acoustic and guitar performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. Perfect if you’re in the mood for something low-key and intimate.
