We’re beyond ready to welcome in the season of fun in the sun and the activities that come with it. Swimming, outdoor sports, cookouts… the list goes on and on!
We’re so excited to start enjoying summer, that we’ve compiled a list of fun activities to do in Cape.
- Pack a Picnic
This classic activity is a favorite around here and rightfully so. With so many gorgeous parks to choose from, you could have picnics all the time!
Pack a basket full of goodies from the farmers’ markets and local food shops and pick a park.
Don’t forget to take a blanket to sit on in case the grass still has dew on it.

- Get Crafty
If you feel like busting out your inner Martha Stewart, summer’s the perfect time! There are so many fun ways to incorporate the season into an arts and crafts project.
Here’s a fun one that people of any age can enjoy.
Flora & Fauna Insects
What you’ll need (Items that you can find on a hike on any of Cape’s beautiful trails):
Leaves
Flowers
Twigs
Seeds
Glue (hot glue is recommended, but for the kiddos, Elmer’s School Glue will work just fine)
This craft is great for any nature lover and all you have to do is gather your supplies on a walk in nature and come home to assemble. Use leaves, flower petals, twigs and more to make your very own flora and fauna insect. Position your choice of items in a shape that looks like any insect you can imagine! Bees, butterflies, spiders…. you can truly make any insect.
Once your pieces are positioned, glue them together and, voila, your own cute critter.
- Bike & Hike
A classic summer activity is to take a hike or go for a bike ride, and it’s made even more fun in Cape! We have a plethora of trails that are perfect for everyone from a novice to a regular trail blazer.
Grab your canteen, hiking boots and bike and make a whole day of it in the great outdoors!
- We all Scream for Ice Cream
Arguably the best way to enjoy summer is with ice cream. Whether you’re on team cup or team cone, you’ll find a sweet treat that is just what you needed to enjoy the day. Cape has local spots and chain locations where you can get this creamy frozen goodness, so you’re bound to find a flavor you like!
- Appreciate the Arts
Art adorns most everywhere you look in Cape Girardeau. From the downtown sculptures to the murals along the flood wall. You can make a day out of art appreciation around here.
