• Fort D Historic Site:
  A perfectly preserved Civil War fortification built in 1861 to defend the city from Confederate attacks. Visitors can stroll through this historic site and imagine the soldiers who once stood guard here. Frequent reenactments are held at this historic site overlooking the Mississippi River.
• Common Pleas Courthouse:
  This historic structure served as a meeting point for military leaders and a makeshift hospital during the war. Its commanding views of the river are a reminder of its strategic importance.
• Ivers Square:
  Once the city’s common ground, Ivers Square today tells an essential part of Cape Girardeau’s Civil War story.
